Russian Christmas Eve

XmasPast copyToday is Christmas Eve, at least by the Julian calendar which our Orthodox faith follows. Tomorrow my family will gather and celebrate at my brother’s house. He invited us over today and says he will be there between 5:00 and 5:30 PM. Betty and I will get there by 4:30 PM just so we are not stuck in traffic.

I went to Nob Hill and bought some Kielbasa to bring along. They are basically tiny hot dogs that you eat as an appetizer. Because we recently celebrated what most people consider a traditional Christmas dinner, this gathering will be more in the spirit of pot luck. Still I look forward to seeing my mom just as she will treasure having her four children all within arms grasp and there will be lots of hugging tomorrow! Also George said he has a neat video game called Mafia to show me.

We thus have a longer celebration of the holidays. In fact they will last until the end of Chinese New Year, Gung Hay Fat Choy! There will also be a couple birthdays to celebrate and we will do one of them tomorrow. In the background my Christmas Carols are playing as I quietly add this memory of life as a consultant while awaiting my wife this Russian Christmas Eve.
